December, 18 2009 08:00 PM - AIL SYMUDIAD
, CELLAR BAR, - £5

Ail Symudiad were formed in Cardigan, West Wales in 1978, influenced by the new wave movement of that time and by bands like The Jam and the Undertones. Originally they were three members - Richard Jones, guitar, vocals; Wyn Jones, bass, backing vocals and Gareth Lewis, drums. They stayed like this for about 18 months, and then there came a personnel change on drums, and a band addition - Robin Davies, guitar. At the start of the eighties they acquired a new drummer - Robert Newbold and he remained with the band during the height of their popularity - 1980 - 1984. During this time Ail Symudiad formed their own record label - Fflach and released Ail Symudiad singles and recorded other bands on their label. Ail Symudiad singles included ’Twristiaid yn y Dre’ (Tourists in the Town); ’Garej Paradwys’ (Paradise Garage); ’Geiriau’ (Words) and’Edrych Trwy Y Camerau’ (Looking through the Cameras) and an album ’Sefyll ar y Sgwar’ (Standing on the Square). In 1989, drummer Paul Pridmore joined the band and a second album was released, entitled Rhy Fyr I Fod yn Joci (Too Short to be a Jockey!). After four more years of gigging and songwriting, in 1993, they released their third album Ddy Mwfi (The Movie). This album has remained a favourite on BBC Radio Cymru (welsh language radio), and gets regularly played along with many old classics. The latest album is an 18-track compilation of the singles they released back in 80s. The album was released in 2002 and is available to buy from www.fflach.co.uk. Brothers Richard and Wyn have been in the band from the start, but of course, as they still play there have been many changes in line-up since 1978. In the early eighties their largest audience was 2,500 in the then Top Rank in Swansea in August 1982. But nearly every gig in that era brought large audiences of anything from 200-400+ people, which was, and still is a big feat for a welsh language band. www.myspace.com/ailsymudiad

December, 31 2009 08:00 PM - LAST CHANCE SALOON, PAPA DJ
, CELLAR BAR, - £15

Tonight is the big NEW YEAR’S EVE party at the Cellar Bar with loads of spectacular entertainment from early evening through to the wee hours. Tonight we have got one of the Cellar Bar’s favourite bands, LAST CHANCE SALOON, showing off both their smooth artistry and stonking grooves. They are playing two sets starting off with a sparkling acoustic set of creative original tunes and tasty classics. Then cranking things up with their usual dancey set of funky, rhythm & blues/country rock, blended with some very cool, soulful grooves for the second set after the break. After midnight, when the live music has wound down, we will be taking things to a whole new level with the bouncing sounds from the maestro of the dancefloor, PAPA DJ! He’ll be delivering the goods with some 70’s and 80’s classics, Old Skool tunes and some cutting edge grooves spinning on the decks too. It will be a great night and a lovely way to see the New Year in with good friends and all the spirited Cellar Bar regulars. Please book your tickets early as we expect tickets to sell like hot cakes nearer the big night.
