November, 27 2009 09:30 PM - Secret Green + Nic Chapman and the Iceni
@ The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, Northwest HX7 8EE - £8 / £10

Francis Lickerish is most famous as the guitarist, composer and founder member of 70’s classic progressive rock band The Enid, with whom he composed and recorded classic albums such as In the Region of the Summer Stars and Aerie Faerie Nonsense. After some time away from the music scene, Francis has returned with his new band, Secret Green, who recently released their debut album ‘To Wake The King’, receiving great reviews and accolades along the way, being widely feted in the progressive & folk world as possibly the album of 2009. Secret Green’s line up also includes Willie Gilmour (composer / keyboard player with The Enid), Jon Beedle (guitarist for Cliff Richard amongst many others!) and Hilary Palmer on vocals. A great opportunity to see a unique band, still capturing the unique sound of the early days of The Enid, but with a totally fresh approach with Hilary Palmer’s beautiful vocals. A powerful live experience not to be missed. With support from Hebden Bridge singer/songwriter Nic Chapman and his band, playing songs from his forthcoming album ‘Narrow Road To The Deep North’

November, 28 2009 09:00 PM - Cabaret Heaven with Clare Summerskill and Steve Best
@ The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, Northwest HX7 8EE - £7 / £9

Another top night of comedy, music and surprises with two acts so fantastic we’re not sure who to put on first. Clare Summerskill was described on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour as "a lesbian Victoria Wood" and with her charming mix of stand-up and songs she puts on a great show. And my goodness, she’s been on Richard and Judy which is nothing to coming on the Peggy and Bernard Show! Steve Best is a great visual comedian harnessing a mind-boggling array of gadgets and gags in a gorgeous display of wild tomfoolery."In a class of his own" said The Times. They’ll be joined by Bernard Otter with songs, stunts and surprises, and a guest DJ as well as our own Daz and Dave. Last cabaret of the year!

December, 3 2009 09:00 PM - Labour Party Quiz & Curry Night
@ The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, Northwest HX7 8EE - £4

The Labour Party fights back with a Quiz and Curry. These nights can be a bit messy and a bit loud, but quizmaster Dave Boardman wants you to win points, and ultimately prizes, even though the prizes are pretty tacky, as befits a party concerned with Fiscal Responsibility. The curries are spicy without being toxic. The questions provide tough choices, but if you work together as a team with no backbiting, even if you think the team captain is a bit dodgy, there’s still a faint chance you can win. All money raised goes to help fund the branch.

December, 6 2009 03:00 PM - The Unthanks + Jonny Kearney and Lucy Farrell
@ The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, Northwest HX7 8EE - £9 / £12

The Mercury Prize nominees return to the Trades for a two night stint, with a critically praised new album, an extended line-up and a name change. Rachel’s husband Adrian McNally is on piano and Chris Price has joined on guitar. Reviewing ‘Here’s the Tender Coming’, Robin Denselow wrote “Here’s an album that’s even more satisfying, compelling, and varied than ‘The Bairns’. There are echoes of anything from jazz to music hall and even systems music. Haunting, original and magnificent.” Last December’s show sold out very quickly. If you want to see them this time around, don’t delay, book today. The Unthanks are proud and excited to present Jonny Kearney and Lucy Farrell. Jonny Kearney is a young songwriter from Hexham way and Lucy Farrell is his charming Kentish accomplice. We’ve had an eye on Jonny’s songwriting for a while now, quite staggered by the quality and richness of his kitchen sink dramas and tales of the heart. Says Rachel Unthank, "Jonny’s songwriting is heartbreaking and touching, humorous and unexpected, and never ceases to enthral". Lucy (voice, fiddle, saw) and Jonny (voice, guitar, piano) are perfect foils for each other; "the fragility of one and warmth of the other is a moving combination," says Rachel. Jonny and Lucy will open for The Unthanks on every date of their 40 date UK tour.

Driven by razor sharp banjo riffs, wailing harmonica and 50’s twang his solo shows are a one man tour de force.
