December, 4 2009 08:30 PM - Postcrypt Coffeehouse
1160 Amsterdam Ave, New York, New York 10027 - No cover, tip jar

I rediscovered this wonderful, intimate New York venue while singing harmonies with my friend A.J. Roach a few weeks ago, and they were kind enough to squeeze us in for December. The space is a small, cement room in the basement of Saint Paul’s Chapel, at Columbia University. It’s lit up with christmas lights and able to fit about thirty people. In a city where so much is electrified, this is a dedicated acoustic venue. We will play unamplified, but the room is perfect for this, very reverberant and very much a listening space. It’s quiet. Quiet as the tomb, in fact. It is a crypt, after all. Accompanying ensemble to be announced shortly.

December, 23 2009 06:00 PM - First Unitarian Universalist Church
1187 Franklin St (at Geary), San Francisco, California 94109 - $15

This evening will be a double bill with my dear friend Odessa Chen. Odessa is a magnificent singer and songwriter. We met when I heard her singing in a dark vibey bar in Berkeley, and was utterly captivated by her voice and music. Her songs are atmospheric, mysterious, and, to my ears, transcendent. The venue is the intimate and reverberant chapel where Odessa held her CD release concert, for those of you who are familiar with her work. I will be joined by the marvelous Alan Lin on violin and vocals, and Odessa and I will also be singing together, in addition to performing our own sets. Having been away for some time now, I will cherish this opportunity to share my new songs with you, which feature an abundance of voices singing in harmony, and which we will recreate to the best of our abilities as a threesome. We so hope you will join us to celebrate the winter’s passage-- the shortest day, the Christmas or Chanukah holiday, or whatever you most feel called to celebrate, come late December. Ticket info to follow shortly.
