Brillobox, upstairs, PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania 15244 - $6.00

Ben Hardt is in the middle of creating a multi-album project which chronicles the story of two lovers in WWII London, complete with a string section and band. The first six songs released serve as an overview of what promises to be a much larger and more comprehensive album detailing the introduction, separation, and reunion of the lovers, displaying a hopeful story against the backdrop of one of the darkest times in the 20th century. November, 27 2009 09:30 PM - El Ten Eleven, Dawn Canon, Gangwish
Brillobox, upstairs, PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania 15244 - $7.00

“Winning the prize for the most technically impressive band I’ve seen this year was L.A.’s El Ten Eleven. Dunn was often playing guitar and bass simultaneously on his double-necked guitar while his foot moved in a blur across effects and looping pedals. The coordination and precision was breathtaking without straying into gimmickry.” DenverPost.com. Support: www.dawncanon.com. Tickets at: www.ticketweb.com/brillobox

December, 2 2009 09:30 PM - Do Make Say Think with The Happiness Project and Years
Brillobox, upstairs, PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania 15244 - $12.00

Do Make Say Think started in January 1996 when three Toronto roommates, Justin Small, James Payment (friends since childhood) and Charles Spearin began performing shows loosely based on their experimental 8-track home recordings. The performances, like the recordings, were instrumental, largely improvised and steered away from traditional song structuring in favour of a more open-ended ambient style which drew from influences like Gastr del Sol, Flying Saucer Attack, Brise Glace, Muslimgauze and Scorn. From album to album more and more time gets taken in the studio to painstakingly construct a very meaningful and concrete idea, so over time the improvisational nature of the band’s performances has given way to a more clear presentation of the compositions. Currently there is very little improvising at a Do Make Say Think show. Support: www.happiness-project.ca, www.yearsmusic.ca. Tickets at: www.ticketweb.com/brillobox

December, 11 2009 09:30 PM - Donora, The Librarians
Brillobox, upstairs, PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania 15244 - $6.00

Jake H. met Casey a few hours after she was born. He was disappointed she was a girl and cried. Eighteen years later, he got over it, and they started a band. A few years after that, they suckered another kid named Jake into playing bass. After shooting down Caseys idea to name the band Casey and the Jakes, they became Donora. Jake H. plays the drums, triggers samples from his octapad, and sings backup. Casey sings and tries very hard to remember the right guitar chords to play. Jake C. plays bass and reminds Casey which key each song starts in. Together they play melodic, dance-worthy, garage rock. Support: www.myspace.com/librarians. Tickets at www.ticketweb.com/brillobox
