Our Fearless Leader
Current mood: calm
Category: Music

We at WTB headquarters are quite proud or our chief scientist, Scott McBride, and his recent musical endeavors.  In case you hadn't heard, Scott recently recorded and released his own album under his own name.  The album is called Friends Always Worry Me and was released on May 8th, known internationally as "Worry About Your Friends Day."  This album is now available for purchase in various forms.

You can purchase the album in CD form at CD Baby.  They are currently two for the price of one, which is quite nice.  Click here to go to CD Baby and buy a few.

Or, if you consider CDs to be sooo 1999, you can purchase the album or individual tracks via iTunes.  Click here to go to iTunes world and buy some music.

You can preview some of the songs at Scott's myspace site which is located right here.

In this time of reprogramming robots and retraining baboons, wouldn't you like to hear what WTB's fearless leader has been up to??

Christmas EP mayhem (is here!)
Category: Music

Update: 12/13/06 - As promised, all six of the Christmas EP songs are now posted at welcometobrookhollow.com for you to download and love.  It's free, meaning you don't have to give us money to download them and enjoy them.  I guess it's our little gift to you.  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

All has been quiet in the WTB camp this year.  I apologize.  I've spent a lot of time making music under my "christian" name Scott McBride.  As for WTB, we are still around but who knows when, if ever anything will happen again.  However, to tide everyone over and make people very happy, our long-awaited, seldom heard Christmas EP is almost complete and songs will be up, maybe as soon as tonight.  I, for one, am extremely fond of this EP and its songs as they are quite different from typical WTB fare.  These could become the Christmas songs for the new millenium (that being the one that begins in the year 3000).  So, sorry any WTB fans for the lack of updates and fun.  But, enjoy the Christmas EP songs.  The plan is to stream 4 of them here and have all of them available to download at welcometobrookhollow.com.  Thanks for sticking with us.  We love and miss all of you.

Update:  Four brand new "Christmas" songs are up on the page now.  All six songs will be available to download later this week at welcometobrookhollow.com.  We'll let you know when that happens.  This is our first official release since "The Story of the Kelly Gang" EP way back in 2002.  So here's to ending droughts!  This one is totally diy and independent all the way.  Recorded by us and released by us.   If we ever make hard copies of this, they'll be given away for free at shows (if we ever play a show again).  For now, I would encourage you to download them and make your own CD if you wish.  The tracklist I had intended to use looked like this
1. All Alone on Christmas Eve
2. Repeat the Sounding Joy
3. There's All the People
4. Get to Your House
5. This Little Life of Mine
6. Jesus is the Reason for the Season
But you're welcome to put them in any order you like.  Again, I hope you enjoy.  It's lyrics time...

All Alone on Christmas Eve -  So you bought yourself a little something and you wrap it for the morn'.  But you can't wait and tear the paper off like you forgot what it was.  All alone on Christmas Eve.  I had hoped the holidays would be kinder to me.  You expect her ghost to rise up through the floor and lay down with you in bed.  And it hurts the most when all the lights go green and then they go red.

Repeat the Sounding Joy - You've been waiting so long for this day to come around and now you've played all your best chords and your guitar's tuned.  It's a great big world with a lot of people all waiting to sing.  They're waiting to repeat the sounding joy.  The kids are rolling up their cords and packing up their cars.  They're picking up their drums and keyboards and all their guitars.  They're getting in the vehicle and heading for the bar.  They're setting up.  Now, they're wailing on electric guitars.  With the count you play the song.  It probably won't be worth a damn but it's all you've had to give her all along.  You hope she loves it.  It's a great big world but there's just one girl who you want to see.  You want her to repeat the sounding joy.

There's All the People - Blue skies over clouds today.  Green light to gray will fade.  Sunlight on the window pane.  I'm not there.  I want to see you again.  No, I'm not there.  Just want to see you again.  Think of all the different ways to say "Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays."  I've scripted lines but all I want to say is "I'm not with you but I want to be.  No, I'm not with you but I want to be."  Where were you when the lights came up and no one was around?  Where were you when I couldn't give thought to any other sound but your voice?  I'll drive around all night.  There's the church.  There's the steeple.  Open the door, there's all the people.  Where were you when the lights came up?  Where were you?  Traveled through such treacherous terrain.  Snow drifts and the frozen rain.  All for a knot, and the knot is pain.  I'm not there. I want to see you again.  No, I'm not there.  Just want to see you again.

Get to Your House - Sooner or later I'll get to your heart.  The pleasant surroundings make for great talk.  Candy canes and sugar plums fill your mind and as you drift to sleep you're on mine.  There's a tried and tested model for singing in the dark.  If I give it my best shot from the bottom of my heart, then by God, I'll make you mine.  I'm gonna get to your house before it gets too late.  To ask for forgiveness on Christmas day.  I'm gonna get to your house and it's none too soon, I've got a yearning for forgiveness, just please say you do.  Sooner or later I'll get to your heart.  But when love comes to talk to me, I close the door.  Stupid me, I'm the son of a son of a gun.  I'll learn eventually, when I have no one.

This Little Life of Mine - Sing a tune so wildly melodic with harmony.  Forming circles with our candles for all on the road to see.  And I wonder as I wander, "if I were to take flight, would I come down in the valley of sweetness and light?"  This little life of mine.  I'm gonna kill it in time.  This little life of mine like a candle glows and everyone who knows will feel good inside, so good inside.  With green and red lights hung up for my neighbors eyes to see perhaps it will make them wish that they were spending time with me.  And I wonder as I plunder for whom this gift will be or if it would be better suited if I kept it for me.

Jesus is the Reason for the Season - Jesus is the reason for this time.  The truth of the season is before our eyes.  And I watch and I wait but the time, it got so late.  So I pick up my head and I write to her, "You have been the best of all my friends.  I would follow you to any end.  'Cause I know that you're down.  A super dope homeboy from the old town.  And I know that this is such.  You've got a beat I can't touch.  And I could be the fire after the rain."  Jesus is the reason for this time.  The truth of the season is before our eyes.  Silent night, I rejoice quietly.  Raise my voice for a chorus or two in celebration of you.

Resolution
Current mood: determined
Category: Music

I know it's not quite new year's yet but I'm making a resolution/promise...2006 will be our year.  This will be the year that Welcome to Brookhollow makes it happen.  We're gonna get off our asses, finish these albums, release them, play shows and go nuts.  I've been complacent far too long when I should be out there rocking my freaking balls off.  Music has always been my passion and I need to pursue doing what I love.  Even if it means playing once a month or every couple months, I need to keep it up.  No more excuses or dickin' around.  This train is leaving the station soon.  Destination: Rockland.  That's probably really the name of a town somewhere.  We probably won't literally go there, just figuratively.  So, to the "fans" out there, if there are any, we will rise again like a flaming golden hawk.  This new stuff will rock your shit clean off.  No joke.  "Hello Hospital" is off the hook.  "Cliches are Correct" makes me dizzy with all the hooks.  Not to toot our own horn here, but I think we've made some damn fine records and here we are sitting on our hands, phoning it in and half-assing getting around to doing any damn thing with them.  It's time that ends.  It's time I get serious.

uneventful
Current mood: restless

What an uneventful year for all things WTB.  Two albums right on the cusp of being completed and still zip.  Kinda sucks.  Sometimes I wonder if we'll even ever play a show again.  I miss doing it.  Those were some of the funnest times of being in a band is playing shows with WTB.  The GCMS benefit a few years ago...opening for 238 in Ft. Walton at that movie theater...even the Autumn fest in Birmingham where everyone hated us.  Still fun.  Anything's possible I suppose.

in lieu of...
Current mood: embarrassed

In lieu of "Famous Sister," which will still be posted eventually (it is currently having some difficulties I'm trying to work out)...enjoy "Idea Machine" which is a selection from our upcoming full-length album "Cliches are Correct" and, if I'm not mistaken, one of Chris Strickland's favorites.  "Cliches are Correct," God-willing, will be out this year.  And we, God-willing and band members permitting, will play shows again.  I desire to very much.

Famous Sister
Current mood: crazy

Sometime soon...and by soon I mean within the span of this impending weekend...there will be a completely new song up and running for the enjoyment of all. The song is called "Famous Sister" and it's for all the Ashlee Simpson's, Jamie Lynn Spear's, Hillary Duff's sister of the world. It's a thickly-layered, drop D tuned, keyboard smattered assault on the senses that moves at a speed not unlike a funeral dirge. I like funeral dirge's so I like this song and I really hope that you will too. Check on back here in a day or two...

It's Friday
Current mood: bored

I am soooo freakin bored! It's cold and rainy outside and there's not a thing to do around this place. Some, like, halo 2 would be pretty sweet. Or some Family Guy episodes. I want to see that movie "Sideways," anyone with me? Well, anyways, this is Scott of Welcome to Brookhollow again. As we speak (or as I type), WTB is re-constituting itself and will begin practices next weekend. We're gonna play some rock shows soon, finish recording "Cliches are Correct" (the next full-length album), and start recording even more stuff! The new band will be writing some songs together in a short span of time and then we will hit the studio and go nuts. At least, that is my hope. It's perhaps too soon to let everyone in on the new band members but patience is a virtue. I can let you in on the tracklisting for "Cliches are Correct" though:

Maybe it Was Too Soon
I'd Let You Do It
Local Ones
Pregnant Girlfriend
Sink and Drown
Left-Handed Guitar Player
One Hundred Million People
Evil Overlord
Gas Station Wine
Idea Machine
Please Tell Me You're Joking
Handsome Cuss

So, that's something to look forward to, I think. Lots of melody there. Especially tracks 1-4. It will be out sometime this year. Keep an eye out for rock and roll coming your way!

Delay?
Current mood: artistic

So, for Christmas, I decided to spend some money on myself and I got some effects pedals. The only effects pedal I have ever owned before was a Jim Dunlop wah pedal (which I still have), a DOD Supra Distortion pedal (which I also have but never use and might auction off on ebay) and a Boss hm-3 heavy metal distortion pedal (which I don't have and I have no idea where it is). But, anyways...I bought a Line 6 dl-4 delay modeler, a Boss ph-3 phaser and a Boss tu-2 chromatic tuner (more for practical reasons than anything). The tuner is great and so easy to use and it really comes in handy. The phaser is really awesome too. If you're looking for a phaser pedal, go with the Boss. But what I really want to say is that I love my Line 6 delay pedal. It's just so damn cool. It has SO MANY things packed on-board that it's nearly unbelievable. I mean, you can sound like the Edge in a click of a button. It also has reverse effects, an auto-volume echo (which sounds great) and a freakin' loop sampler! You get like 14 seconds of recording time! It's a great way to test out song ideas and just screw around with and waste hours of your life. The pedal is slowly working it's way into my "solo" record songs. I hope I'm not doing the "solo" record thing in vain. I think it will turn out stellar and I've gotten myself really eager to do it over the past few days. Hopefully, in the next few months, I'll be able to finalize everything and take it to task. It really runs the gamut from rock to folk to everything inbetween. It might be the most heartwrenching thing EVER created. Who knows...I'm debating as to where to record it as well...perhaps the snake ranch....I don't know...it's still up in the air.

First blog on myspace.com
Current mood: accomplished

Hello internet folk. This is Scott of Welcome to Brookhollow welcoming you to our myspace.com site. We got some super sweet mp3's for you to enjoy. "Young Republicans in Love" is a new demo, "This Little Life of Mine" is a piece from our ultra-rare Christmas EP and there's a couple others you may have heard. We will change out the mp3's on occasion to allow some rare stuff, some demo stuff and some new stuff to be posted. 2005 is going to be a busy year for all in the Brookhollow Gang. We will be completing and releasing the long-awaited "Cliches are Correct," our sixth full-length album. We are also working on another record, an EP entitled "How to Murder Your Wife." It's a quirky little concept EP, very dark as the title would suggest. In addition, our Christmas EP will get a proper release sometime this year. On top of all that, we continue to pound out new songs at every corner and are in the middle of a lineup shift that will allow us to play shows with much more frequency.

So, to sum up, Welcome to Brookhollow ain't dead baby. You can't kill us, you can only hope to contain us.

On a side note, I, in the risk of sounding like an arrogant asshole, will be recording a "solo" record this year. It's a project I've been working on since 2003 and it's quite different from WTB. It is concept album about girls from small towns, the boys who love them, dreams deferred, heartbreak, and compromise. Heavy, eh? I will give periodic updates on the record's progress. It's currently untitled but I'm considering "Snow on the Soy." Hmmmm....is that a gay title?

Thanks for stopping in...
