This is the thread devoted to the debate that The Elegant Universe and Mars have agreed to undertake after much discussion in this thread. The resolution to this debate is: "It is evangelically counterproductive and biblically inaccurate for Christians to arrive at the conclusion that someone is NOT a Christian based on our observations."



The rules to the debate are as follows:
1. This is a civil debate - there will be no insult hurling.
2. This debate will last five rounds. The Elegant Universe will give the opening statement and Mars will then give a rebuttal.
3. Unfamiliar terms will be defined upon request.
4. All sources will be cited properly.

Okay, man has the right to say who is and who is not a Christian. Whatever.

Is man capable of actually knowing who is and who is not a Christian though? What criteria does man judge this on? How does a man know if he is a Christian himself? How does he know that the criteria he judges himself on is right?
